Why should I join?

We are a tight knit brotherhood of University of Rochester students with common interests and ideologies. As a national fraternity, we were founded against hazing and on the tenants of Love, Truth and Honor, and this chapter exemplifies these virtues through our day to day activities. Whether it is through our philanthropy events held to benefit organizations such as St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, or events held for the benefit of the University of Rochester community such as study breaks held during finals week, we constantly strive to live our time at the University by our virtues, while building a fun and effective brotherhood.

The Process

Our chapter is constantly looking for new members that will benefit the brotherhood while bettering themselves. At Sigma Nu, our recruitment process is straightforward, and is designed to be fun and effective for all involved. While this is an ongoing process, the best time to express your interest in joining the fraternity is during Open Rush.

Open Rush IFC’s open rush period is the perfect place to start your recruitment process. During this time, the brothers of Sigma Nu, as well as the University of Rochester’s other IFC fraternities, hold events open to all interested in joining the brotherhood. These rush events are an ideal time to meet and interact with the brothers in a friendly and social environment. The three official Sigma Nu Fall 2017 Open Rush events are outlined below.

Closed Rush At the end of the Open Rush period, individuals who demonstrate significant interest are offered an invitation to closed rush events. These events are often more personal than open rush events and allow for individuals and brothers to make meaningful connections. At the end of closed rush, the brothers of Sigma Nu select which attendees will be offered the opportunity to start the Candidate Process, the next step in becoming a Sigma Nu.
